J. Kapela Design & Construction was founded in 2003 with a defining mission: to honor, preserve, and restore the enduring architectural vernacular of Ohio's Western Reserve. Over more than two decades, what began as a custom design practice has evolved into a fully integrated design-build ecosystem — aligning residential design, comprehensive construction management, and commercial development within a single collaborative discipline.
The Integrated Model
Traditional project delivery frequently fractures the relationship between the drafting table and the job site. When design and construction operate in isolation, coordination gaps widen, budgets drift, and critical details are lost in translation.
Our transition into direct construction management was born out of client demand. Homeowners who engaged our architectural studio wanted that exact precision and integrity carried through the final framing and finishes. By bringing planning, estimating, general contracting, and craft execution under one roof, decisions are evaluated early and executed with clarity. We replace administrative friction and change-order fatigue with a predictable, seamless path from concept to completion.
Beyond Residential
In 2016, we expanded this cohesive platform into commercial construction management. Bringing the same architectural rigor, disciplined site leadership, and back-office financial modeling to apartment buildings, schools, retail, and mixed-use environments, we deliver landmarks that perform commercially and stand the test of time.

Founder & Principal
Justin Kapela founded the firm in 2003 after more than a decade working in residential design and construction across Northeast Ohio. His background spans architectural design, construction management, and historic preservation — a combination that defines the firm's integrated approach.
Justin holds a deep personal commitment to the architectural heritage of Ohio's Western Reserve. He has led the design and construction of more than 500 custom homes and renovation projects, and is widely recognized as one of the region's foremost authorities on traditional residential architecture.

Jury & Co. is an interior design studio providing full-service residential and commercial design — from space planning and material selection to custom furniture and art curation. Every interior is shaped to reflect the quality and character of the architecture it inhabits.
